How to Have a Sizzler of a Honeymoon! Article No. 7

May 4th, 2008

As you reach 30 and beyond, you encounter a very frightening phenomena.

At first you hardly notice it. Don’t want to notice it. Can’t accept that it’s happening. But little by little, recognition dawns - as does the shock.

First there’s your hairdresser, whose blank eyes seem to be focused on anything but your dyed locks her practiced hands are dressing.

Then there’s the bank-teller, looking as though he should still be at school, explaining to you the finer points of banking procedure too loudly and too clearly, almost as if he thinks you’ve just dropped in on planet earth and banking is a novelty to you.

And then, the bitterest blow of all.

You’re sitting on a bar stool, new hair-do, new outfit, looking absolutely drop-down gorgeous, when you see this young fellow smiling warmly as he begins to move in your direction. In the middle of your own gratified answering smile, you realize with horror, that he’s smiling at your neighbour. A fifteen year old with a fake ID and make-up put on with a trowel.

That’s when it hits you. You’re becoming invisible.

In a culture that will see the majority of men and women marry more than once - and sometimes when they’re fifty, sixty and even older - it’s difficult for an older couple not to notice the effect they’re having on the younger generation. If they also happen to choose a honeymoon playground largely patronized by the very young, they can’t avoid seeing how their togetherness seems to arouse smiles and nudges.

To counter the feeling of reduction, and to assert themselves as people in their own rights, older couples tend to react in two different ways. There are those that adopt all the attributes of the very young - acting, talking, dressing as if they were, in fact, twenty years younger than they are. At the other extreme, they become the grumpy old men and women who fail to see anything of value in the youth-worshiping world of today.

Those imitating youth, sooner or later reach the conclusion that acting like a young goat is not only not satisfying, but actually gives them that hollow feeling of being less than they are.

But just because they decide to stop imitating youth, doesn’t mean that now they have to go the way of the grumps. Perhaps the world isn’t the way it used to be, but being open to new ideas as youth tends to be, allows you to feel less like a visitor in your own world. It may even help you to enjoy life on your own terms.

Top 5 Factors Determining Your Car Insurance Rate

May 4th, 2008

Auto insurance can be confusing and mind boggling sometimes and
it’s hard to determine exactly why some individuals are
receiving rates which are lower than others. There are many
factors which contribute to the rate of auto insurance, some you
have control over and others you don’t.

Below you will find valuable information regarding the factors
which are compiled in order to determine the rate of your car
insurance. These will help you understand important aspects of
auto insurance and why some individuals receive higher rates
than others. Here are the top five factors which auto insurance
companies will consider when determining your rate of insurance:

1.Age - Your age will greatly affect the rate of your car
insurance. Teenagers and individuals who are just beginning to
drive will have higher rates for no reason other than their age.
There is nothing you can do about this, as you get older and
become a more experienced driver your rates will go down.
Although they will go down, they will not stay down. When you
reach a certain age your car insurance rates will go back up
because you are an elderly driver and your eyes and coordination
may not be as effective anymore.

2.Auto Insurance Companies - This is a factor which you have
control over. Some car insurance companies offer lower rates
than others for many reasons. It is up to you to choose which
one will benefit you the most both now and in the long run.

3.Gender - Whether you are male or female will also affect the
rate of your car insurance. This is yet another factor which you
have no control over. Females generally have lower car insurance
rates because according to insurance companies men are seen as
potential dangerous and careless drivers who are more likely to
be involved in car accidents.

4.Type of Vehicle - As much as we would all love to be driving a
shiny silver Porsche Boxter all around town, the insurance rates
for these types of vehicles are unreal. If you want your auto
insurance rates to be low, I would suggest driving a car with a
lower price tag. The more money your car is worth, the higher
your car insurance rate will be.

5.Driving Violations - This is another factor which you have
control over. I know how tempting it is to race your friends the
moment you get your license for the first time, but the amount
of money you will pay in the long run hardly seems worth it. Any
form of ticket you receive can potentially raise the rate of
your car insurance. If you want to pay less for car insurance I
would suggest abiding by the rules of the road.

Although these are the most important factors in determining
your rate of car insurance, there are many other factors which
also play a part in how much you will pay. Auto insurance is
something we all have to pay for, but by researching and
understanding the aspects of this form of insurance you are
learning how to reduce your rate to your best ability.

3 Quick and Easy Ways to Make Your Website That Much Better

May 4th, 2008

There are some easily overlooked facts about websites that sometimes doesn’t get all that much attention, but could be the difference between your website being “okay” or “fantastic!”. They can make all the difference to your user who is visiting your website. We certainly don’t want to hinder their experience nor confuse them, so how can we make sure their experience will be a memorable one for all the right reasons?

Easy Navigation is the primary concern of many websites right now. If it takes more than 2-3 clicks to get to somewhere, then it’s not going to be seen. Navigation needs to be easy, self-explanatory, without need of a manual. If someone needs a manual to learn how to use your website, it’s time to re-think your navigation. A main central menu is common, with or without sub-menus. The basic “Home”, “About Us”, “Products”, “Services”, “Contact” is your basic 5 page linked menu. Just build upon that. It’ll make maintenance easier and is faster for your customer to get where they really want to be, instead of treating your website like a Rubik’s cube!

You need to have consistent design. Without consistent design, your website could look like a child designed it. Can you imagine visiting a website, where it has a beautifully laid out design on the front page, then you click on a link to delve further, and the colour scheme has completely reversed, the menu has changed it’s position and instead of everything flowing say, vertically, it’s now all flowing horizontally? You would be confused to say the least and think that whoever put it together must be nuts. Don’t give your audience an opportunity to think that way about you. Your online reputation depends on it.

Last, but certainly not least, you WILL need up to date content. I don’t think I need to explain how your website visitor would feel if they found an article on your money saving website that mentioned “Money Saving Tips for 1995″ which is not only very out of date, but also mentioned items that are no longer for sale, or lists common things you can do which actually make you spend more money in the long term. Your visitor would feel that you don’t have enough confidence in your website to keep it fresh and up to date, so why should they have the time to make a repeat visit? If your website is about online business, remember that certain search engine optimisation tweaks only apply for a certain period of time, and many need re-doing as other new future search engines become more popular. Now it doesn’t matter how you get the content i.e.: hire a writer or join an articles directory, you need that fresh content and update your main content page at least every week. If necessary and if you have the skills, re-write your exiting content to include the latest relevant ideas.

Remember to keep these ideas in mind as you next plan to perform some maintenance on your online estate. Keep your navigation simple and flowing, consistent look and feel on every page (create and use your own template if need be, it’ll help!) and regularly updated content. Implement these and your website visitor will have a much, much more enjoyable experience and will return the favour by making repeat visits! Which is, after all, what you want.

Asbestos in Schools and the Workplace

May 4th, 2008

So what is asbestos really all about? The following report
includes some fascinating information about asbestos–info you
can use, not just the old stuff they used to tell you.

Asbestos is a special kind of material that was used in building
construction and other industries up to the 1980s. At that time,
this material was found to be the cause of many health problems
suffered by people working in asbestos mines and in the
production of asbestos-containing products.

In spite of this, the Western Australian Advisory Committee on
Hazardous Substances carried out research and reached to the
conclusion that the hazardous effects of asbestos are due to
human negligence. Evidence shows that if the asbestos is left
untouched, it does not pose any risk to health. It is not
necessary to remove asbestos materials to prevent health
problems.

There are many schools and workplaces that have been built at
the time when asbestos was very popular. Contrary to what has
been said, there are some occasions when asbestos material needs
to be disturbed. For example, if the material is not in good
condition due to weather conditions, or if there are
modifications in the buildings, asbestos should be removed.

Now that we’ve covered those aspects of asbestos, let’s turn to
some of the other factors that need to be considered.

There are some procedures to follow when removal of asbestos
material is pursued.

The asbestos removal must be directed by Contract Management
Services and performed in agreement with the Occupational Safety
and Health Regulations. Before asbestos removal works starts,
meetings must be held between the project manager, school
directives and stakeholders.

Removal tasks must not be performed while students and employees
are at the school. Prior to the return of employees and students
to school supervision of the work must be carried out.

I hope that reading the above information was both enjoyable and
educational for you. Your learning process should be
ongoing–the more you understand about any subject, the more you
will be able to share with others.
