Money Myths Of The Poor

May 31st, 2008

From tender age, we were exposed to myths about money and myths of being rich. Be it from our parents, brothers, sisters, relatives, or friends. The myths that we have determine our financial well being in our adult lives.

I call them myths because they are not true. Or, at least they are not giving you the complete picture.

We can’t blame our parents for the myths in us. They already gave us the best they could. And don’t forget that times change. Things were true then may not be true today.

If you want to move ahead financially, you have to be aware of the myths that you have about wealth and money. And do not let the myths stop you from living a wealthy life.

Money Myth 1: Work hard and you’ll be rich.

Many of us think that by having a job with a big company would ensure that we’re on the path to financial freedom. With so many layoff announcements, we might be out of job anytime. I’m not saying that you’d be one of them but the fact is there is no job that is guaranteed.

Recently, my friend was laid off in less than a month in his new job. Having a job is merely helping you to cope with daily expenses, providing you shelter, food and clothing. Do not be misled that a job or your employer will turn you into a rich and wealthy person. No one cares more than you about your wealth.

Money Myth 2: Saving is good.

When I was small, I was told by my mother that I must learn to save. I thank my mother for inculcating the habit of saving in me. The habit of saving helps me to develop discipline. Many people think that when they save enough, one fine day they’ll be rich.

But is saving alone enough to make you wealthy?

I came to realize that if I only depend on my savings to get rich, I’d have to wait for a long time. That’s the problem with savings, it takes a long time for you to get rich. Saving alone is not enough. You have to learn to invest your money in other investment vehicles to grow your money faster.

Money Myth 3: Debt is evil.

The other common myth about money is debt is bad. Did your parents ever tell you that borrowing was bad? Mine did. Not all debt is bad, actually. It depends on how you spend your loans that you’re getting. If you take a credit card loan to buy a flat plasma TV, it’s a bad debt. On the other hand, if you take loans to start a business or invest in real estate, the debt is good.

If debt is bad, can you imagine what would happen to companies if they are not allowed to take loans from the banks? As a general rule, if you use debts to buy things that increase in value over time, they are good debts. You must know whether the debt you’re taking is good or bad.

Money Myth 4: You need money to make money.

When I ask my friends what’s stopping them from starting their own business, the common answer is “I don’t have money. And it takes money to make money.” I do agree that it takes money to make money. But does it really to be your own money?

Everybody has limited resources when it comes to achieving our financial goals. I do not expect you to have everything when you plan to build your own business. You might need financial backing, manpower, expertise, or a coach to guide you. If you lack resources in any areas, find the resources. Someone else will definitely have it. It does take money to make money, but you can use OPM - other people’s money.

Money Myth 5: Investing is risky.

Many think that investing is risky because they lack education in investing. Investing itself is not risky if you know how to control the risks. Most of us invest based on a tip from a friend or broker without doing our own research. When you lose money, you say that investing is risky. And you tell yourself that you’ll never invest again.

To be frank, everything we do has a risk in it. Learn to manage risks by educating yourself. You can educate yourself by attending seminars, reading books, or even from the Internet.

Money Myth 6: Wealth reflects in material possessions.

Material possessions reflect your level of wealth. This is a misleading measurement. Someone who is driving a Porsche might not be rich and he might highly in debt.

Wealth does not reflect in material possessions. Wealth is a state of mind. Wealth is how fast you can become rich if you’re stripped of everything. As Henry Ford once said after he was asked what he would do if he lost all his fortunes, “I’ll become a millionaire again within five years.”

We possess one or more of the above myths, consciously or unconsciously. But what is more important is to be aware of the myths and replace the myths with facts. By doing this will tremendously improve your financial well being.

Enjoying The Beauty Of California Beach Weddings

May 31st, 2008

One of the most important new trends in the world of weddings and wedding planning has been the incredible popularity of weddings held at beach resorts, and for many years now California beach weddings have been among the most popular among all kinds of brides and grooms.

The state of California certainly has no shortage of beautiful beaches, and holding a fabulous wedding in such a great location is one of the best ways to celebrate this most special of days.

Start Your Search Early To Ensure You Have Space At The Resort

Those wishing to plan the perfect California beach wedding should be sure to start searching early, since the best beach resorts in the state can often fill up quickly, both with wedding parties and with general vacationers.

This shopping early is even more important during the busy summer wedding months but it is important at other times of year as well.

Compare The Values Of Various California Beach Resorts

There are many places to start the search for the perfect resort to host your California beach weddings, but if you already have a favorite California beach resort it may be a good idea to check with that resort first when contacting the resort location it is important to determine what the beach resort will handle and what you will be responsible for.

This is an essential consideration, and it is important to know which aspects of planning the wedding you will have to take care of at your own expense. Knowing what each resort is offering is the best way to accurately and easily compare the values of the various California beach weddings.

Making Sure You Have Fun When Planning You Wedding

After you have selected the perfect resort location for your beach wedding, it is important to get the invitations out as quickly as possible, since an accurate count of guests will help the rest of the wedding planning process go a lot more smoothly.

It is always important to get the invitations out as quickly as possible, of course, but it is even more vital when it comes to planning California beach weddings.

It is important as well to reserve a block of hotel rooms for out of town guests, and to make sure that all of your invited guests have the information they need to reserve their rooms.

Providing an easy way for guests to attend your wedding will make the entire process of planning the perfect beach wedding even more exciting and fun.

Measuring the Return on Your Direct Mail Investment

May 30th, 2008

In direct mail lore, there’s a rule stating that you can measure the success of your efforts by a minimum response rate of 1-2%.

In other words, if you send out 10,000 pieces, you’ll have a successful mailing if at least 100 recipients respond to your offer. (One percent of 10,000 is 100.)

That’s one view of direct mailing success.

Permit me to offer a different perspective: one from the small business world. Specifically, I’m referring to those small business people who work by and for themselves. Call them “One-Man Bands,” “Working Soloists,” “Free Agents,” or whatever you’d like.

To help you remember these two perspectives, let’s give them a couple of catchy names:

1. The “Playing the Percentages” Perspective. This is the “industry standard 1-2% response rate on your mailings” perspective you’ve heard so much about. This is the yardstick favored by businesses that are sending large quantities of direct mail to sell mass market products.

For example, if I own a pizza parlor, and I’m doing a “use this card for 10% off on your next order” mailing to all residences within a three-mile radius of my business, I might have a mailing list of 10,000 names.

You’d better believe that I’m going to watch the overall response rate like a hawk, and I’m going to be looking at precisely where those hungry customers are coming from. If most of them are coming from a handful of apartment complexes next to a college campus, I’ll know to send my future mailings to those complexes.

2. The “You Only Need A Few” Perspective. This is the one for those One-Man (or One-Woman) Bands who are selling services that take a fair amount of time to provide. Like marketing consulting, public relations services, graphic design, or customized computer software applications.

For these folks, a handful of new or repeat clients from a promotional mailing is quite enough. After all, as the owner of a one-woman graphic design studio told me once, “I don’t want to be a victim of my own [direct mail] success.”

Finding a Bad Credit Mortgage

May 29th, 2008

If you are looking to purchase a home or refinance the one you are currently living in, but believe this may not be a possibility for you because you have bad credit, think again.

Just because you have bad credit does not mean you will not be able to receive a mortgage. In fact there are many lenders out there across the United States that are know as wholesale lenders that specialize in lending money to people with bad credit.

The names of these wholesale lenders may not ring familiar to you because they are not the typical lending institutions you see on the street corners of your town, otherwise know as banks.

The first thing you will need to do is locate a few of these wholesale lenders and shop around for a deal you believe to be fair. If you do not have success finding these lenders on your own, you may want to consider using a broker and have them shop around for you.

A broker is not a lender. What they do is assess your situation, than shop around for a lender that deals with bad credit mortgages.

Brokers have access to hundreds of lenders across the country and they can usually find one that has a program that may fit your needs.

Using a broker may not be such a bad idea, they are usually very experienced in their field and will not only find a bad credit mortgage lender for you, they will also council and educate you along the way.

Keep in mind, just because your credit may be less than perfect, does not mean that you are at the mercy of the mortgage companies, you are not.

Mortgage companies are very competitive, especially among the wholesale lenders, so be sure to shop around. Don’t limit yourself to contacting only one broker, say no more than four. Allow for each to assess your situation, than base your consideration of which one you will use on the rate and program that they offer you. Good luck.

Jennifer Hershey has more than twenty years of experience in the Mortgage Industry as a loan officer. She is the owner of www.explainingmortgages.com/, a mortgage resource site devoted to making mortgage terms and products easy to understand.

Hearing Loss Can Be A Great Loss

May 28th, 2008

If you or someone you love has started to experience hearing loss, than you know firsthand what a great loss hearing loss actually is. As a physician’s assistant, I get to work with people all the time who are dealing with the beginning stages of hearing loss.

If you’re anything like me, then your hearing is something that you definitely take for granted. You don’t think too much about the privilege of being able to hear everything around you because it has simply always been that way. You grow up hearing the voices of the ones you love, the music that you love, and all the other fabulous (and annoying) sounds in the world. Think about all of the smallest sounds that make up the sounds of your day: your turn signal blinking in the car, the keys of your keyboard as you type an email, the coffee pot as it creates your pick-me-up brew, or the sink as the water gets hot. All of these sounds, and so many more, make up the small details of our worlds. Can you imagine dealing with hearing loss and not being able to hear these ordinary things?

We’ve probably all experienced the temporary hearing loss that comes from having water in our ears or from having a really bad cold. There is nothing like not being able to hear the people around you. Hearing loss, no matter how small or severe, makes communication with people really difficult and frustrating. We rely on our abilities to talk and to hear in every significant relationship in our lives.

Or take your job for example. Regardless of what you do, isn’t the ability to hear quite significant to your work? How would you sit through a board meeting or teach a class or make a phone call if you had hearing loss? Once you start to really think about the role of hearing in our lives, you can never deny the privilege and the blessing it really is.

In today’s age, there are many ways to battle against hearing loss and to use techonology to restore hearing loss. So if you or someone you know is struggling with the beginning stages of hearing loss, then make an appointment to see your doctor today and see what you can be done to keep your hearing intact. You won’t know how valuable hearing is until you lose it, so do what you can do preserve your hearing starting today.

About Baby’s Separation Anxiety

May 28th, 2008

How do I feel about my child’s separation anxiety? Honestly,
it’s absolutely one of the most delightful feelings I really
enjoy as a mom.

I remember when my son was between 8-9 months old. Just like
every mother, I couldn’t forget those moments.

At that time, he often asked for more attention from me rather
than from anybody in the house. No matter where he was or who
was holding him, as soon as he saw me, he suddenly cried as if
he was asking me to hold him.

When I came close to him, he abruptly opened his arms and looked
so happy. His cry stopped in a moment. It was truly an unspoken
feeling I had experienced.

But there was also time when he acted differently from what I
had expected. When I went for work, I thought he would cry hard
to see me leaving him. I hugged him tight and kissed his face
again and again.

I told him, “Baby, Mommy have to go to work now. Eat and drink a
lot, okay? And have a good nap. I’ll be back. Love you much.
Bubye.”

Sometimes he kept looking at me when I said so. I expected him
to start weeping. But it didn’t happen. I wondered why. I found
out later that he was interested with the wheels of the car I
traveled in everyday.

Whenever the car started to run, my son always kept his eyes on
the wheels. Looking at them spinning must have been very
exciting to him. I just smiled, though my heart broke a little.
I soothed myself by thinking that it was good for him being
curious of strange things.

My son is a baby who has sleeping problem. Throughout the night
during his sleep, he often woke up several times. If he woke up
and didn’t find me nearby, he would cry out loud, making the
whole house panic as if something really bad happen.

When I got into the bedroom, he would crawl toward me, and then
I hugged him. He’d be calm afterward. Breastfeeding really
worked to put him back to sleep.

Thank God I decided to breastfeed him so that I wouldn’t be
engaged with the rush of preparing formula during the night.
Yes, I chose to breastfeed him in nighttimes, even though he
still got formula in day times.

Maybe this breastfeeding activity had created the bond between
us. I enjoyed it, and still until now. This might also what made
my son didn’t want to stay away from me.

If your baby or child has the same characteristic as my son has,
I’m sure you have the same feeling as I do. If you think that
your baby’s cry (for being away from you) annoy you, just
remember that it won’t last forever.

Separation anxiety is a phase in your child’s development during
his early years of life. Almost all children go through this
experience. What I can suggest you is just enjoy these intimate
moments before they’re gone along with your child’s growth.

>From what I’ve heard from my friends about this, you’re gonna
miss the moments. To me, even now, I really don’t want the phase
fade away.

Wait, wait. There’s one more thing I’d like to share with you,
which you may not think will make your child comfortable. I
remember my friend told me that if you’re going somewhere, don’t
forget to tell your child that you’ll be back. Instead of
sneaking out of the house, waving your hand and saying that
you’ll be back will soothe him somehow.

Here You’re Going To Learn Several Ways To Save Money Every Month By Lowering Your Monthly Bills.

May 28th, 2008

Has debt got you down?

If so, you’re not alone. These days getting into debt is easy. Getting out is not. Buying lottery tickets and hoping to “win the big one” is not the answer.

No matter how much money you owe, and no matter how tight money gets, remember that life is too short to spend time worrying.

Therefore, the real “secret” to getting completely out of debt is actually very simple:

Make the commitment, then take action!

If all you do is sit back and talk about getting out of debt, and just complain about how hard it is being stuck in debt - and never actually do anything about it - an amazing thing will happen… NOTHING!

You won’t get out of debt overnight - after all, you didn’t get into debt overnight, either.

But you can change the way you think. Our mind is very powerful. And when life seems to be out of control, the simplest thing you can control is how you think!

There’s an old saying:

“The definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over again, but expecting different results!”

That’s especially true when it comes to getting out of debt!

You need to start with small steps. Take out a notebook and write down your goals. Write down the small steps you will take to reach your goals.

• Cut out unnecessary expenses
• Think of inexpensive ways to have fun
• Consider selling valuable items you don’t need
• Get a part-time job
• Start an online business

Think hard, write down everything you think of, then decide which steps to take first. And most importantly, go ahead and do them.

Nobody every got rich by sitting on the couch and thinking!

Without making the commitment to getting out of debt, you never will.

On the other hand, you CAN live the life you’ve always wanted. And if you make the commitment - and don’t let ANYONE or ANYTHING get in your way - you, too, can live a life without debt!

The Importance of Touch

May 28th, 2008

Through the simple process of touch, Reflexology is so effective in the healing process. In the hi-tech world that we live in, touch has taken second place to machines.

Physiotherapists are now using machines instead of their hands. Doctors use machines to scan bodies and no longer rely on their hands for diagnosis. People have forgotten how to hug one another. They now shake hands. They walk past one another in the streets and do not even greet each other.

Electric blankets are used to keep warm in bed - human arms have become redundant. Healing takes place through an exchange of human energies and not through an exchange of electricity.

There is sufficient evidence that over-exposure to electricity increases the risk of cancer. Even living near high voltage pylons is reputed to deplete the immune system.

Research was done in an orphanage in London where the mortality rate of babies was very high. People were paid to come into the orphanage and to play with an experimental group of babies. The mortality rate remained the same for the babies in the control group but the experimental group babies who were played with every day showed a higher survival rate.

When you are feeling down in the dumps and someone hugs you, you immediately feel better. This occurs because of the exchange of human energies and since positive energy can be used to destroy negative energy, you change the energy field of the person and they will immediately feel better.

All of us have the gift of healing in our hands. You instinctively use your hands to heal. When you bang your knee, you automatically put your hand on it. When a child bangs his head against something, you put your hand on his head. You are transmitting healing energy without even knowing it.

Reflexology, which is an ancient form of healing which stimulates energy points in the feet, hands and body, is one modality that effectively transmits healing energy.
