Exercise Bikes - No Excuses, 30 Minutes A Day On A Bike Will Change Your Life

March 27th, 2008

Exercise bikes are the ideal home exercise equipment. We are all advised to exercise for 30 minutes per day to stay healthy combined with a good balanced food intake. Most people complain of not having the time to go to the gym or prepare to out jogging etc but if it was for 30 minutes of TV I’d bet that time would be no problem. Why not combine the two, TV and exercise. Watching TV while exercising cuts out the boredom of being locked in a room looking at the four walls exercising. If you have a program you watch on a regular basis the time will only fly in.

What exercise bike will I buy?

Exercise bikes come in all wonderful styles from the basic stationary bike to built in programs for spinning and mountain courses. The best is what you can afford to pay, the main thing is that you are exercising regularly or intend to do so. The more basic exercise bike can cost anywhere from $80 upwards and generally has a few different gears available to make the exercise more intense as you proceed with fitness. I have to say if you can afford to spend $200 you will find exercise bikes that have pre tuned exercise programs that are easy to follow and are a great way to burn fat.

How to Start:

Starting can be daunting but after a week or so you will find your fitness level improving and overall health. You need to introduce the body into the exercise for the first couple of days, for many people buying exercise bikes it’s the first time they have done such an exercise in years. The first few days should be a slow introductory pace, if you go all out in the first day or so you will only end up with aching muscles and may even put you off exercising again. Remember that this is a marathon not a sprint.

Who are the main manufacturers of exercise bikes?

Weslo, Reebok,Tuntui, Stamina, Proform, Nordic Track and Fitnees Track have for many years manufactured some of the greatest exercise bikes we have ever seen and all are still doing so. There are foldable bikes available for those living in apartments or people who are simply tied for space. Many people are now trying to build a home gym with the essentials in exercise equipment; the exercise bike should be first on the shopping list. The exercise itself is an excellent aerobic exercise, easy to start with and works ideally as a cross trainer with most other fitness equipment.

Some exercise bikes have a dual function, exercise for the upper and lower body. Apart from the obvious leg exercise you will also find upper body levers on some, this is an ideal exercise for a total body workout and will burn fat more quickly than the standard exercise bike (the more muscle groups you exercise the more fat your burn and more quickly).

Why buy an exercise bike when I can get a treadmill?

The exercise bike has very low impact on the joints. If you have previous injuries or weak joints in general the exercise bike is an ideal gentle exercise. The treadmill is a much higher impacting exercise on the joints and people with weak knees or ankles should be aware. If you decide to get an exercise bike with dual exercise (upper and lower body) you will burn more fat than that of the treadmill as you have no upper body resistance with the treadmill. There are arguments on both sides of the fence as to what is better the bike or the treadmill but you should look at your goals and see what suits both your budget and your target weight loss or general fitness. At the moment the cardio benefits to you as the user lies greater with the exercise dual function bike to that of the treadmill.

In Brief:

The exercise bike is ideal for beginners to the more advanced groups; it offers a low impact, high calorie burning exercise that have an excellent cardio workout. Combined with a balanced diet the exercise bike used regularly will help you achieve your fitness goals.

Garlic Lemon Chicken, a healthy break during the holiday season

March 27th, 2008

Garlic Lemon Chicken is a wonderful dish during the Holliday
season. Christmas and Thanksgiving often mean spending a lot of
time in the kitchen; this tasteful but easy dish is great for
those other days during this cozy family season.

Your family will love it and you won’t have to spend all your
time in the kitchen. Besides, garlic is very healthy and a bit
of a counter weight to all those heavy cholesterol rich foods
that are consumed during this time of year.

Are you ready for this truly delicious garlic lemon chicken?

Let’s get all of the ingredients together that you will need to
prepare this wonderful chicken dish.

You can either purchase a whole chicken and then cut it into
pieces or just buy the cuts that your family enjoys such as
chicken thighs or breasts. Remember the most calorie rich part
of the chicken is just under the skin. So you might want to go
for the breasts.

You will also need:

  • 10 cloves of minced garlic,
  • 4 tablespoons of
    margarine,
  • 3 large lemons,
  • 1 teaspoon of dried
    oregano,
  • salt,
  • pepper, and
  • parsley.

You should begin by preheating your broiler. Take your chicken
and rinse underwater and skin, then rinse again well under cold
water and place in a large baking dish. Squeeze the lemons and
reserve the juice.

Sprinkle about one half of the garlic over the chicken and dab
of the margarine on various spots on the chicken. Pour of the
juice from the lemons on your chicken, and season with the
oregano, salt, and pepper. Broil for about 15 minutes, remember
to baste quite often. This last part is important, so invest
heavily in these 15 minutes.

Remove and turn the chicken, add the remaining of the
ingredients just like you did before broiling for the first
time. Now you will need to broil your chicken again for another
15 minutes.

Remember, to baste your chicken so it does not burn. If the
chicken starts to become too crispy, you can change from broil
to bake and bake at 350 degrees until the chicken is completely
done.

Remove the chicken from the oven and pour the remaining sauce
from the baking dish over your chicken and serve.

Everyone will absolutely love this garlic chicken dish. It’s
great to serve this chicken meal with whipped potatoes and a
garden salad.

Tips To Get Your Accounting Degree

March 27th, 2008

What is the best way to go about getting your accounting degree? When I decided to get my degree, I had to do a lot of research and consider a lot of options before finally deciding on how to go about it. However, that was at a time when there were not nearly the resources there are now. So, if you are serious about pursuing your accounting degree, here are some tips that may help you get started and to do so under the circumstances you want.

The story is pretty much the same when you research anything; you should check the internet first. Online you are likely to find a number of places where you can get an accounting degree online. Online education for any degree is great if you are someone with a busy schedule. By getting your accounting degree online you can work on your education at night, on weekends, or whenever you have time. Just check to make sure that whatever online institution you choose to go with is accredited for accounting.

The next place you can look for an accounting degree as at your local university or community college. Many of these higher education facilities can offer you a wonderful accounting degree. A community college is especially a place where you might have a great educational experience on your way to that accounting degree. Community colleges often offer the same night and weekend options that would also be fulfilled by the online class. If you don’t think you would get as much from your accounting degree if it was obtained online, then perhaps a community college would be your best bet.

If, though, you like the idea of a more traditional accounting degree, then a local university might be the way for you to go. You will get an accounting degree that is likely accredited and from someplace a little more recognizable to the public at large. You will also be able to attend college in a more traditional manner more easily if that is your desire. In the end, it is just a matter of your personal preference if a traditional local university is the best place for you to obtain your accounting degree.

Lastly, when all else fails, check with local institutes of higher education to see if they offer correspondence classes. Correspondence classes are those taken through the mail. If you don’t have internet access, time to get to a campus, or a community college nearby, correspondence courses may be the best way for you to get your accounting degree.

Getting your accounting degree is probably very important to you. It can open a lot of career doors for you and will get you doing what you really want to do. Where, though, can you go to get your accounting degree? There are a number of places you can look to get your degree in different ways. Check online to see if you can get your accounting degree over the internet. Go through the local higher education establishments and see if you can find a program that you think will work for you. Then, if all else fails, you can always investigate a correspondence course to get your accounting degree. No matter how you do it, though, just make sure it is the best program for you and your situation.

The Home Garden

March 27th, 2008

The Home Garden

The garden should be near the house and away from trees. If it’s
some distance away from the house, it will not be as well looked
after, nor will most use be made of vegetables grown. Vegetables
near trees cannot get full sunshine; even more important, tree
roots will rob them of water and fertilizer they need to do
their best.

If you can, move the garden spot every 10 years or so to help
keep down diseases. Proper rotation and use of disease-resistant
varieties will help, but sooner or later the old garden spot
becomes so full of various disease spores and nematodes that you
cannot grow a good crop of many vegetables without use of
special soil fumigants.

Soil should, of course, be well drained. Few vegetables can
stand “wet feet.” A sandy loam with a clay subsoil is best.
Heavy clay soils may be made quite suitable by adding heavy
quantities of stable manure or compost, or by turning under
cover crops, preferably legumes such as vetch, clover soybeans.

Since the best quality quantity of vegetables cannot be duced on
anything but a fertile soil, do whatever is needed to make it
fertile.

Requirements for growth. 1. Proper degree of heat. 2. Moisture.
3. Oxygen in the air is essential for seed germination and good
growth.

English peas, for example, will sprout when soil termperature is
only a few degrees above freezing, while seed such as tomatoes
will not germinate at all.

To start these tender vegetables for early crops, artificial
heat, as in hotbeds, is needed. Otherwise, for early crops, buy
plants from commercial growers, or from local growers who
produce them with artificial heat. Tender vegetables that do not
transplant such as melons, cucumbers, cantaloupes, and squash,
should not be planted outdoors until soil has warmed up. These
may, however, be started earlier in small pots in a hotbead.

To make the most out of your gardening efforts, take time to do
some planning. Also keep a record of wheather you had too much
or too little of certain vegatables at any time during the
season for a continuous supply. Don’t trust it all to memory.

Things to consider when planting.

1. How much of each vegetable to grow to supply your family
needs.

2. Which vegetables are most need for good health.

3. How much extra to plant for storage

4. Which varities are best to plant.

5. When to plant for continuous growth and supply.

6. Which pesticides are best for control of insects and diseases.

7. Supplies needed such as, sprayers, dusters, tools,
fertilizer, or mulching material.

Jotting this down on paper, plus any notes made during the
season about special pest problems or how a new variety or
practice turned out, will be valuable the next season when
planning and planting time roll around.

Presenting with a Partner - Tips for Making It a Success

March 27th, 2008

Recently I attended a presentation introducing several new computer software programs. I was doubly delighted. Not only was the presentation lively, informative and exciting, it was orchestrated by not one, but two speakers. This feat in itself offers a huge challenge, and yet, when accomplished as well as the two men I heard, can be an excellent and effective way to present. In this article, I address some of the effective ways of partnering for a presentation.

What makes a presentation given by two people good, along with being worthwhile, not only for them, but also for the audience?

Preparation, preparation, preparation. It was extremely evident that the two men who were working together - they bill themselves as “brothers” - were both well prepared for their portion of the program. They were also, however, prepared for the parts they shared. It wasn’t just one person’s show, followed by the other person’s show. They were working together.

Timing is more important than ever. When two people are presenting together, they must know exactly how much time to devote to their part and/or parts of the time allotted. If one goes way over, it will detract from the other’s portion, because the audience will feel they were cheated out of information. A clever way to handle this and keep the audience aware of the time was the way the first “brother” presenting asked the second “brother” to keep track of the time and give him a signal when it was time for him to wind down. As the second “brother” started, the first one unobtrusively switched the connection to the projector from his laptop to his brother’s.

Be comfortable with each other. One of the most important factors that made this presentation such a complete success was that these two men exhibited such an easy camaraderie with each other. They joked with each other - but not too much. They listened to each other (even though I am sure that they have heard this material many, many times before - they travel the country doing these presentations). Most of all, they appeared to sincerely like each other. The rapport they had with each other multiplied into establishing an easy rapport with us, the audience.

Even if your personalities and presentation styles differ, it is imperative that each of you is a powerful presenter. The two men who were so impressive could be brothers (I have a feeling they aren’t), but they were similar in looks, the way they dressed (appropriately for the type of meeting they were attending), and both were equally excellent presenters. Both had enough pizzazz and polish that neither outshone the other - even though I was more interested in the software programs attacked by the second brother, I still enjoyed the first presentation as much.

Yes, co-presenting with another can create a challenge, but can also - when done well - give you and your listeners a powerful presentation to remember. Try it. You will be glad you did.
